MEMORIALS, HONORARIUMS, GENERAL GIFTS

We invite you to consider a contribution to Wing Haven as a meaningful and lasting way to memorialize or honor a family member or friend, or to acknowledge special events like anniversaries and birthdays.  Friends of the gardens often designate Wing Haven in an obituary as the recipient of directed memorial gifts. These donations make a significant impact on the health of our gardens, and we are very grateful.

How are the contributions used? Tribute gifts are used to support our mission in the community and help to ensure the health and beauty of the garden.  However, we also welcome gifts that are designated for a special area of the garden, to support a favorite project or educational program, or to contribute to the challenges of maintaining a historic site.  As Charlotte continues to grow and change, Wing Haven’s architectural and horticultural integrity become more important every day.

Gifts can be made online or mailed to 260 Ridgewood Avenue, Charlotte, NC, 28209, with a completed form and check made payable to Wing Haven.

In-Kind Contributions

Products and services have a significant impact on our operating budget. Through the generosity of businesses and individuals, in-kind gifts that support our gardens and office activities can help reduce our expenses, allowing us to focus our spending in other areas such as improved educational programs and expanded community outreach.  Following are some suggestions of in-kind gifts that can help us save dollars that can be used elsewhere:

  • Garden supplies and materials, including bird seed and mealworms

  • Frequent Flier miles for speakers and staff attendance at conferences

  • Hotel accommodations for speakers

  • Construction services, especially masonry, carpentry and painting

  • Product and gift certificate donations for door prizes and other uses

  • Catering and food preparation services for special events

  • Floral arrangements and other amenities for special events

SEED Wildlife Garden: Gardens that Inspire Children

Support the new SEED (Student Environmental Education & Discovery) Wildlife Garden and expanded Children’s Garden at Wing Haven! Many years of thoughtful planning for the formerly unused ¾-acre parcel beyond the Rose Garden, and adjacent to the Wood Duck Pond, has resulted in the new SEED Wildlife Garden meant to inspire generations of children and their families. In keeping with the tradition of the Clarksons historic garden as bird and wildlife sanctuary, this new garden area incorporates a variety of learning and play environments to help children learn from and observe nature. Environmental educational materials will reference from and utilize exciting new SEED garden areas including a green tunnel, a bird observation platform, an ozone garden, a pollinator garden, an outdoor classroom, a pump and dry stream bed, and much more.

The SEED Wildlife Garden opened to the public with great celebration in April 2019. $1,000,000 will be raised in designated endowment to support the new space and expanded educational programs. You can help support the new SEED garden in perpetuity for the children of our community with a donation to help us reach our total goal of $1,000,000 in designated SEED Endowment to support the plantings, programs and people that make this space come alive!

For information about designated gifts, stock gifts or planned gifts to the SEED Wildlife Garden, please contact Development Director Susan Evans, 704.331.0664 ext. 108.
