Welcome to Wing Haven!
Enjoy, Observe and Listen.

Wing Haven's three public gardens are a sanctuary for birds, wildlife, and people. As you enjoy the garden paths and learning environments, please keep the noise level down so that all may enjoy the peace of the gardens. Thank you!

Our beautiful gardens offer an escape from Charlotte’s busy, urban lifestyle, as well as a look at Charlotte's history from times past. Nestled in the heart of the Myers Park neighborhood, Wing Haven is located between Selwyn Avenue and Westfield Road. Thank you for your interest in visiting our gardens! Blue Star Museums:
Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America. Through the Blue Star Museums program, Wing Haven offers free general admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families from Armed Forces Day weekend through Labor Day.

American Horticultural Society’s Reciprocal Admission Program
Wing Haven is part of the American Horticultural Society (AHS) Reciprocal Admission Program. A current membership card from AHS or from a garden* also participating in the Reciprocal Admissions Program (RAP) entitles you to free admission to Wing Haven as well as special admission privileges and/or discounts at 345+ gardens throughout North America.

*Wing Haven enforces the 90-mile exclusion rule. From the American Horticultural Society’s website:

  • Make special note if a garden enforces the 90-mile exclusion. The 90-mile exclusion allows gardens to exclude members of other gardens within 90 miles of them from receiving their reciprocal benefit(s) unless the gardens mutually agree to lift the exclusion. For AHS members, the exclusion is based on their home address. Please contact the garden you belong to or the garden you plan to visit for further details.

  • Present your current membership card at the admissions counter or gift shop to receive the RAP benefit(s) listed for that garden. Each card will only admit the individual(s) whose name is listed on the card. In the case of a family, couple, or household membership card that does not list individual names, the garden must extend the benefit(s) to at least two of the members. In this case, it is at the garden’s discretion to extend benefits to more than two individuals. Some gardens may require a photo ID

Adult Tours for Groups

Discover the beauty of Wing Haven's historic properties with a private, guided tour by one of our docents.  You'll start with Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary, the home and garden of Eddie and Elizabeth Clarkson.  The Clarkson home was built in 1927 and is preserved with its original design and décor.  You'll tour the garden while hearing about the Clarksons and how their horticultural prowess and love of songbirds and wildlife grew this beautiful peaceful refuge of just over three acres.  A peek into our SEED Wildlife & Children’s Garden is incorporated into the garden stroll, if you so choose.

Next, you'll go just nine houses down the street to tour the Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden.  You'll see the "small city lot" (just over one-third acre) garden of the internationally celebrated garden writer, noted horticulturist and landscape architect, and learn about how Elizabeth Lawrence's vast knowledge and love of plants created this unique "living laboratory" that offers something blooming in every season.
